The SEO Tips And Techniques You May Have Forgotten

In ensuring that your website receives the best possible rankings on the various search engines, such as Google and Yahoo, it is important to implement an effective search engine optimization (SEO) strategy. Those who are not constantly practicing SEO are prone to forget some of the lesser publicized and known tips and techniques, but they are just as beneficial as the others you use all the time:
1. Header and sub-header tags
By using < h1 > (header) and < h2 > (sub-header) tags effectively, you can do more than just improve your website's layout. In order for these tags to be beneficial for SEO, you need to use them in a way that makes sense - the number one rule is to avoid spamming your website with various headers (the search engines hate this, so it actually ruins your SEO).
2. Remove unnecessary code
SEO is implemented into your website with the purpose of making it as visible to search engines and potential visitors as possible. Use an XHTML validator to determine whether all of your code is readable or not - be sure to remove any code that is useless for your SEO purposes.
3. Avoid using images as links
When the search engines index your website, they crawl absolutely every aspect that they can read - the point of SEO is to make this as easy as possible for them. It is because of this that you should avoid using images as links at all costs - the search engines have great difficulty reading images, so these links become useless for your SEO strategy.
4. Use keywords in your URLs
One of the first steps for implementing an effective SEO strategy for your website is to optimise your domain name and site content for relevant keywords. You should also do this for all of the URLs on your website, as it really does go a long way towards increasing your page rank.
5. Keep footer links to a minimum
There is one type of link that gets paid very little (if any) attention by the search engines, thereby making them completely useless for SEO. These links are known as footer links and, whilst they are beneficial from a navigational point of view, they serve for little SEO purpose. Keep these sorts of links at a minimum.
By constantly working on your SEO strategy, you can help to ensure that the above tips and techniques are rarely (if ever) forgotten. By including as many SEO techniques as you can, you can help to increase your chances of receiving a better search engine ranking.
